what does meteorite look like on terraria map viewer

When you press the escape key, you should see 4 map options at the upper right of the screen. I can't turn it on,even on setting screen,is this happening due to my PC? I was wondering if there was any key or legend for the minimaps for the console versions since you can't hover over items with a cursor to find out what they are on the consoles. I know from experience that it will update when hardmode activates as well as when hardmode ores spawn even if you aren't there. I guess this would include multiplayer, are changes by other players updated? But it would also be nice to know if it updates when hardmode is activated too. I want to know if it's worth the trouble of going through the whole map surface THEN trying to get a meteorite. Can I see the actual meteorite on the map before I discover it by actually finding it on screen?)

A meteorite falls- I've seen the area it's fallen on before. Does the minimap update for events that aren't seen, like a meteorite falling or entering hardmode? I know the NPCs movement is tracked, so I'm really curious if other things update too.
